26For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
I cannot get away from this. We must be about our Father's business! If you are running a business for someone, you don't just put your feet up and hope that all the work gets done! Well we are here to take care of God's business! We say we want to see souls won to the Kingdom of God, we want to see body's healed, we want to see miracles! Then we MUST be (James 1:22) doers of the word and not hearers only lest we deceive our own selves! We do not want to be the ones that end up saying (Matthew 7:22) Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? Only to hear Jesus say (Matthew 7:23) I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
So my boast today is this: Thank you Lord for opportunities every where I go to share the good news of your gospel. Amen.
Matthew 7.23 is a great passage because Yeshua literally tells us from his mouth, the evidence by which he knows us.
ReplyDeleteAs well, Matthew 7.23 is a passage that is a part of a study I did in reference to the Greek word, anomia.
Anomia is the Greek word used for the Hebrew word, Torahlessness (one who transgresses the Torah). Anomia is the word the Greek's used when they translated the Tanakh into the Greek language.
In contrast, the word for Torah is the Greek word, nomos. The KJV and other versions of the Bible never translate nomos into Torah. They primarily translate nomos into Law, which is misleading as to the true meaning of Torah which is, instruction. The Torah is literally a set of instructions on how to live in the Earth.
When Matthew was translated from the Hebrew language to Greek, the words nomos and anomia were used for Torah and transgression of the Torah, respectively.
The KJV of the Bible primarily translates 'anomia' into the English word, iniquity. And in Matthew 7.23, that's exactly what the translators did.
Instead of translating anomia as lawlessness as in, 'transgresseth the Law', as was done in I John 3.4, they translated anomia into the word, 'iniquity' in Matthew 7.23. That last word in Matthew 7.23 is the Greek word, anomia.
Yeshua is literally telling us that signs and wonders and prophesying, casting out devils and on and on and on, all done in his name as we are instructed to do, are not the measuring rule. They are not the factor or evidence by which he knows us.
But Yeshua does tell us what the measuring rule is in the last word of the sentence when he says, "Depart from me you that work Torahlessness/transgress the Torah."
For those who want to study anomia and find out what the writers of the NT really taught about it, according to the Concordance to the Greek Scriptures, which includes both OT and NT, the word, anomia' is used in the following passages in the NT:
